Where are you now? Intern at Giles County Administration
Testimonial:
My name is Kaylee Hopkins, and I’ve been a part of the ACCE Program since I graduated from Giles High School in 2022. I will be graduating from New River Community College with a general studies degree and a police science degree in the Spring of 2024. I am interested in working for Internet Crimes Against Children or similar local organizations. For many years, I’ve also been interested in behavioral analysis and investigating the reason why individuals commit crimes. After I graduate in the spring, I plan to continue my education in criminal justice.
The ACCE Program has helped me tremendously throughout my college journey. As a young adult, it’s difficult to know exactly what you want to do with your life. I commend those who set their mind on an occupation at a young age and carry out their plans with ease; I haven’t been as fortunate. As I continue to discover different career paths, my mind jumps between the many options within the criminal justice system. In the midst of college life, it’s easy to lose sight of your purpose, so you need people to encourage you and keep you on the path to success; I’ve found exactly that in the ACCE Program. The people I’ve encountered for the past two years have offered their insight and advice about my career path, which has been very helpful. Engaging with important individuals in your community and forming connections is something that the ACCE Program emphasizes. It means a lot to converse with individuals in the criminal justice realm and take in their wisdom.
Additionally, it has been very rewarding to give back to the community that I call “home”, Giles County. I now recognize the importance of civic engagement and learning about your community. Without ACCE, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to be an intern at Giles County Administration or meet and learn from the many wise, supportive individuals that work there. I can’t thank our sponsors and supporters enough for this opportunity. It’s truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to receive tuition-free college education and gain relevant life skills. Because of the ACCE Program, I’ve become more confident and blossomed into a young adult. I’m so thankful for my time in the ACCE Program!
